Viva Cuba

November 10, 2008 by Bob Johnson

Viva Cubanas

On the radio I listened to an analyst describe how he thought the world would react if we closed Guantanamo.  He thought the world would applaud the closing as more than a symbolic change in America’s policy towards treatment of prisoners.  If we indeed return to our avowal of not torturing prisoners, then I think it’s a good idea.

I’ve not understood why we continue to send used cars to Cuba.  We can use the car customers now and I think the airfare to the Cuban Beaches would be less than others.  And I have a couple of Guitars I’d like to get to a more appreciative owner.  So let’s get real with Cuba.  Viva Las Cubanas!

Hilarious Message To Us

You must look at this video.  It captures the day after perfectly.

First Obama News Conference

November 8, 2008 by Bob Johnson

Hail to the Chiefhail-to-the-chief, almost.

I don’t think he could have done any better, and I can’t remember any other President-elect holding conferences so early.

It is refreshing to have a President who takes all questions, makes it clear when he is going to skip a response and has some humor.

My wife trains intensely our Standard Schnauzer, Ruby.  So we have a special interest in the dog.  We too had to have a hypo allergenic dog.  Ruby is it.

Clearly President Elect Obama is surrounded by experts.  And Ram Emanuel looked intense and hooked in.  He will take good care of the President Elect.

Obama made it clear that he is not president until January 20, 2009, but he underlined the importance of the getting a stimulus package into law as soon as possible so let us hope that congress will come back soon and get going.  They must cancel vacations and get going.

We can’t wait until Obama’s inauguration and to listen to again with pleasure to hail-to-the-chief

President Elect Barack Obama Congratulated Graciously by Senator John McCain

November 5, 2008 by Bob Johnson

Senator John McCain offered graciously his congratulations to President Elect Barack Obama , and behaving hororably and with good will and a spirit of cooperation he promised to help mend the wounds created in the campaign.  He acted at exactly the right time and it is clear from President Elect Obama acceptance speech that he will return in kind Senator McCain’s gesture and bring the opposition to the table of reconciliation.

This is the best thing John McCain has done in his life.  It is a great moment for him and the country.  If he leads the opposition toward reconciliation then we will move indeed quickly to quench the thirst for change and improvement of the conditions We The People created.

Happy Days Are Here Again, Now Unite, Lets Get Moving America

November 5, 2008 by Bob Johnson
This is wonderful.  Tomorrow, with more energy than I have at the moment, I plan to take down all of the posts about Senator John McCain and try to begin the healing process.  I’m sure Senator Obama will do the same.  Let us open our arms to the 50,000,000 or more Americans who voted for Senator John McCain and try hard to bring our country together.

WOW.

Senator Barack Obama’s Grandmother, Madelyn Payne Dunham

November 4, 2008 by Bob Johnson

Dear Senator Obama,

Both my wife Cathy and I extend to you and your family condolences.  If we could take on only a fraction of your grief, we would.  It is clear from all your published work that you loved her dearly.

Again, we extend our condolences.

Prediction is Difficult Especially When You Talk About the Future

November 2, 2008 by Bob Johnson

Prediction is Difficult especially when you talk about the future: Yogi Berra, sometime in the past.

ABC and George Stephanopoulos gang all predict a big win for Barack Obama, and it worries me because in addition to Yogi’s headline today, he said, “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over”, and isn’t that so true.  So let’s go out and vote.

George Will thinks it was the Palin appointment and the economy that helped Barack Obama.  Donna Brazille thinks it is the organization, his message, his inspiration and his positive attitude; I certainly agree.

NBC and Tom Brokaw had on John Kerry, and I perish every time he comes on.  He is a great Senator and clearly a person the shows can get to come on, but he is a terrible spokesman for the party.  He is a smart guy, but his vocabulary stinks.  He must think he has to impress someone.

The republican on NBC was the TV actor turned politician turned presidential candidate and I can’t remember his name right now.  But he too is so slow and deliberate and looks so serious that I can not fail to think that he thinks a great deal of himself.  Not I.

So I turned NBC off and jumped back to ABC.  Too bad the funnies were over, so I turned to PBS, but that was a baking show.  So here I am.

God I hope these predictions are sound.  They are about the future, and Yogi warned it is difficult to predict.  So I’ll keep my fingers crossed and give another donation to see if I can get selected to join the party in Chicago following the Obama basketball game.

Go Vote.

Go Obama.

This Land is Your Land Wood Guthrie

October 31, 2008 by Bob Johnson

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.

Woody Guthrie captured America in his landmark song, This Land is Your Land.  Even the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, the famous Irish singers, included ‘This Land” on its list.

It is here tonight because it reflects the America of the Roosevelt era.  Roosevelt got the country going; he pulled it out of lethargy with a variety of new ideas.  He’d try just about anything, keep it if it worked and ditch if it did not work.  This past winter my wife Cathy and I stayed many times in Florida State Camp Grounds that were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Foot power was a top of the line propulsion method, what with walking down the highway, and roaming and rambling around.  No many of us walk today.

Well the price of gas has fallen to a level that might rekindle interest in housing that is a bit further from the big cities.  About two and half years ago the press began to report that people were losing interest in remote housing because the very high cost of getting to work.  This was right about the time that house prices began to plummet.  People suddenly realized how high they were and what it meant to their real standard of living.

Enjoy the song and pictures.  It’s the real America.

Vote this coming Tuesday.  This is the nuttiest election with the most opportunity in my 62 years.  Let’s roll.

Barack Obama Needs Help, and Money

October 30, 2008 by Bob Johnson

I received the following today and decided to help out again.  I gave $500 in addition to the money I’ve already given.  I would hate to see McCain pull off another come from behind.  Please consider this and give if you can.

Bob –

I’m the Chief Financial Officer for Barack Obama’s campaign. I track the donations coming in and the expenses going out.

I asked for the opportunity to write to you directly so that I could try to explain what’s happening right now.

This organization has thousands of employees and spends millions of dollars a day — and at the moment we’re doing it without a safety net.

Our spending plans have been stretched by John McCain’s negative attacks and the overwhelming resources of the Republican National Committee.

As of October 15th, John McCain and the RNC together had nearly $20 million more in cash than the combined total of Obama for America and the DNC. And just this week, we’re facing new and unexpected spending against us in Montana and West Virginia.

Your incredible generosity has gotten us this far. In fact, our records show that you have already reached your maximum donation for this campaign.

But you can still help get us across the finish line by donating to the Obama Victory Fund.

Please make a donation of $500 or whatever you can afford today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/RNCadvantage

My team and I are working to stretch every dollar in order to keep as many paths to victory open as possible. But we need whatever help you can provide for this crucial final stretch.

Thank you,

MM
